Desk work and posture
Your head is heavy, and your neck and shoulder muscles work harder when it drifts forward, like when you lean in to a screen or look down at a phone. Over a long day those muscles tire and tighten.
Small changes help:
- Raise your screen so the top is around eye level.
- Stand up and move every 30 to 45 minutes.
- Keep your phone at eye height rather than looking down.
How we assess and treat neck pain
Dr Damien will ask about your work, sleep and activity, then check how each part of your neck and upper back is moving. Treatment usually involves specific, gentle adjustments, plus simple stretches and exercises you can do at your desk. If you'd prefer not to have your neck adjusted, just say so: there are other gentle options.
See your GP or go to hospital straight away if neck pain comes with sudden severe headache, dizziness, trouble speaking or swallowing, weakness or numbness in your arms or legs, or follows a serious accident.
Common questions
Is it safe to have my neck adjusted?
Dr Damien checks your history and examines you first to make sure care is suitable. Serious problems are rare, and he'll talk you through any risks before treatment. You can always choose not to have your neck adjusted.
What pillow should I use?
One that keeps your neck level with the rest of your spine when you lie on your side. Dr Damien can give you specific advice.
Can I claim through TAC after a car accident?
Yes, if you have an accepted TAC claim. Bring your claim number.
