Chiropractor for sciatica and pinched nerves

For pain, tingling or numbness that travels from your back into your buttock or leg, or from your neck into your arm.

We reply within 1 business day. For anything urgent, call.

What is sciatica?

Sciatica is pain along the sciatic nerve, which runs from your lower back down the back of each leg. It usually happens when a nerve is irritated where it leaves the spine, often by a disc bulge or a stiff, inflamed joint. The same thing can happen in the neck, causing pain down the arm.

Is this you?

  • Pain that shoots from your buttock down the back of your leg
  • Tingling, pins and needles or numbness in your leg or foot
  • Pain that's worse when you sit, cough or sneeze
  • Arm pain or tingling that comes with a stiff neck

How we assess and treat it

Dr Damien will take a detailed history and check your spine, reflexes, strength and sensation to work out where the nerve is being irritated. Scans such as MRI aren't usually needed straight away. If your symptoms suggest you need one, he'll explain why and refer you.

Care may include gentle adjustments, positions and movements that ease the nerve, and advice on sitting, sleeping and staying active while it settles.

See your GP or go to hospital straight away if you have numbness around your groin or buttocks, changes to bladder or bowel control, or weakness in your legs that's getting worse.

Common questions

Is a "slipped disc" the same thing?

Discs don't actually slip. A disc can bulge and irritate a nerve, and many disc bulges settle over time with the right care.

to confirm: Source to verify (disc bulge regression review), or remove the claim
Should I rest?

Short rests are fine, but gentle movement usually helps more than staying in bed.
